The Zamdela Muslim Community’s monthly personal and social development programme for youth in the Free State town has started paying off.
The workshop, facilitated by Khadeeja Tshegofatso Masibi, centres around activities that allow young people to engage in deep contemplation on the higher purpose of life and the Higher Being. It also gives them an opportunity to critically reflect and ruminate about themselves, their environment, and their religious and spiritual beliefs.
The youth have developed a monthly activity programme that will see them through for the whole year. A theme that permeated in the discussion of the youth was that of a search for creative and innovative ways of understanding and practicing Islam for the time and place they live in.
The activities that the youth proposed for their forthcoming programmes include critical dialogue on the fundamental Islamic beliefs and practices. Other activities will include Career Expo and an Exhibition of the skills and talents amongst the youth of the Zamdela Muslim Community, sport and games Day, and a Masjid Open Day.
The Imam of the Zamdela Muslim Community, Sechaba Mustapha Mamasedi praised the dedication of the youth who attended the programme and reminded them that their models are the Prophet Muhammed (SAW) and his Sahaba, “who are like shinning stars in the murky sky.”
