A group of Sudanese citizens marched through the Durban city centre in solidarity with thousands of their countrymen who are calling for swift civilian rule following the ouster of President Omar alh-Bashir on April 15.

South African human rights’ supporters also joined the Sudanese in their freedom march which ended at the Durban City Hall where Sudanese activists called on the Transitional Military Council (TMC) to “allow for a peaceful, free and democratic transition towards a civilian Government and the removal of paramilitary forces from the cities of Sudan”.

They also demanded that investigations into a massacre of protesters, allegedly by soldiers, be carried out and those responsible speedily brought to justice.

Protesters no longer recognize the Transitional Military Council and are treating the military leaders as an extension of al-Bashir’s regime. – Al Qalam Reporter
