Salaam Foundation is a humanitarian and development organisation based in Johannesburg. We tackle critical challenges of poverty, inequality as well as natural and man-made disasters.
Our work has made a meaningful change in communities across South Africa, the African continent, and beyond by providing vital support and resources.
Guided by the belief that every individual deserves dignity and assistance in times of need, we are committed to making a lasting impact.
Our organisation runs many long-term, sustainable projects in South Africa, Lesotho, Malawi, Madagascar, Palestine, Nepal, Yemen, and Turkey/Syria. These initiatives run throughout the year. Our projects include sustainable farming, hunger alleviation, higher education scholarships, education support, as well as care for widows and orphans. In Nepal and Malawi, we focus on essential water projects.
Salaam Foundation is active in over 12 communities in Gauteng, providing humanitarian aid in the form of meat and vegetable parcels every six weeks through our sustainable farming projects. Additionally, we collaborate with these communities on sustainable livestock and agricultural projects, with the goal of promoting self-sufficiency and reducing dependency on aid.
In Palestine, Salaam Foundation has provided support on several levels including medical supplies, diesel, water and food through the genocide. We established the Gaza Kitchen in March 2023 and have been feeding thousands of people since.
One of our standout initiatives is the creation of the Salaam Foundation Search & Rescue (SFSR) team, which is dedicated to providing rapid response in times of emergency. The SFSR has already played a pivotal role in addressing the December 2024 water crisis and successfully participated in a rescue mission for a missing person, delivering crucial support during these critical situations.
