Members of South African civil society met last week with South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Naledi Pandor, to handover a memorandum and also to express appreciation for the Government’s steadfast support for the Palestinian struggle.
National chairperson, Tisetso Magama, national spokesperson for BD-South Africa said several representatives of civil society organization met to express appreciation both to the minister and the President Cyril Ramaphosa for their firm stance in support of the Palestinian struggle against Israeli Apartheid. “And in particular, our government’s position against US President Donald Trump’s proposal for a Bantustan for Palestinians.”
The meeting and handover followed a successful protest that was held outside the Parliament building last Wednesday by various bodies including NC4P, MJC, BDS South Africa, ANC, SACP, COSATU, NEHAWU, COSAS, ANC YL, YCL, Muslim Youth Movement, Al Quds Foundation, Media Review Network, KZN Palestine Solidarity Forum, SAF-K, Kairos Southern Africa and various other formations.
In a statement, BDS-SA said: “As members of the public hailing from various communities we and our constituencies stand with president Ramaphosa, Minister Pandor and our government who have expressed South Africa’s position clearly at the African Union and elsewhere. We will continue to support our government in standing in solidarity with the people of Palestine and all oppressed peoples of the world – from Venezuela to Western Sahara and across the globe.”
