The Muslim Youth Movement (MYM) of South Africa is saddened by the passing away of a stalwart of the liberation struggle, Pravin Gordhan.
He has an illustrious history in the struggle against apartheid and for justice and peace. As an activist from an early age, he defeated many odds and faced up to the apartheid regime in order to help bring about democracy.
Post 1994, Pravin Gordhan dedicated the remainder of his life to the creation and strengthening of a democratic South Africa. He will mostly be remembered for his principled stance against the forces of corruption and state capture, a stance for which he deserves our admiration and emulation.
His quiet but firm demeanour was indicative of a man who was totally committed to the building of a just society.
In this time of difficulty, we pray that God Almighty strengthens his loved ones and grants them patience and comfort in the knowledge that Pravin Gordhan is loved by many and their loss is the loss of a nation. May his soul find rest.
