HRDP brings together community leaders and activists from SADC

Fifty participants from the SADC countries attended a five day training programme to de­velop their skills in administration, management and leadership.

The programme is a project of the Human Resource Development Programme (HRDP) – an alliance of nine Muslim NGO’s (Southern Africa Dawah Network, Islamic Dawah Movement of Southern Africa, Muslim Youth Movement, South African National Zakah Fund, Islamic Propaga­tion Centre International, Inchanga Islamic Cen­tre, As-Salaam Educational Institute, Ladysmith Dawah Centre and Verulam Islamic Institute) who brought together experts in various fields to conduct the training that was held at the Verulam Islamic Institute from 22-28 September.

The programme is supported by Dawah Acade­my, International Islamic University, Islamabad, MANCOSA and AWQAF SA.

The target audience were Imams, Madrassah Teachers, Duat, Activists, Community Workers and Committee members from various organi­zations. In 2017 women trainees were included for the first time in the programme.

The course in an internal qualification con­ducted over two years.

In the 2019 edition, a to­tal of 20 females and 29 males registered for the training. Besides the administration and manage­ment modules, the trainees also get know-how in Basic First Aid and CPR and visit an area to meet local people as part of an outreach programme. Delegates are also trained on disaster manage­ment and poverty alleviation.
