Tributes have poured in from across the country on the passing of Willowton Group director Marhoom Shoaib Moosa on Tuesday.
He passed away after battling illness. His Janaza was held in Durban.
In a tribute, the president of the Madina Institute, Shaykh Dr Muhammad al Ninowy, said Marhoom Moosa was one of its trustees.
“Faculty, Staff, Students and Alumni mourn the loss of Shoaib Moosa, Trustee of Madina Institute South Africa, whose legacy and contributions have left an indelible mark on our hearts and institution. His commitment to service and leadership will continue to inspire us all.
“Al Marhoom Shoaib Moosa was a philanthropist who, with the Moosa family and Willowton Group, worked within our communities nationally to bring relief, empowerment and growth to so many. His eager and generous contribution to the extension of beneficial knowledge at the institute has enabled us to root ourselves within the heart of the community.”
Media contributor Farouk Araie said: At the apex of his life, we witnessed an impeccable individual who earned his place in history. His accomplishments are legendary. His quest for alleviating hardships gave him an unassailable credibility and integrity that will never be available again in our lifetime. A courageous man who, in his pursuit of helping the needy, will always be associated with progress for humanity. His remarkable deeds were inextricably connected to his closeness to Allah. Those who witnessed his utmost care and generosity, will remember his multitude of accomplishments that he achieved without any pomp or pageantry.”
The Hollywoodbets Dolphins, together with the KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union, said Marhoom Moosa’s contribution to the promotion of developmental cricket will never be forgotten.
“Moosa’s influence on cricket in the province of KwaZulu-Natal cannot be understated, and the hard work and vision he showed propelled cricket development into the spotlight.
His legacy had been etched on cricket through this passion and vision. His involvement and commitment to the KZNCU, Sunfoil and KZNDSAC Hub Development Programme has changed the lives of many, providing a better and more hopeful future for many generations.
President of KZN Cricket Yunus Bobat passed his condolences to the Moosa family and the Willowton Group. “KZN Cricket Union is deeply saddened to hear about the passing of our dear friend and supporter, Shoaib Moosa,” Bobat said.
“His unwavering dedication to the development of cricket within our Union has made a lasting impact on the sport and on all of us who had the privilege of knowing him.
“His generosity and commitment to the growth of the game at grassroots levels will not be forgotten. We are grateful for his contributions and will honour his legacy as we continue to promote cricket in our community.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.”
In another tribute, the Food Aid Foundation said the passing of Marhoom Moosa was a sad loss.
