Islamic Relief’s disaster-response team has been on the ground in Palu, Sulawesi, assisting in rescue operations following the recent earthquake and tsunami that hit the area two weeks ago.
The death toll has now exceeded 2000 while the number of injured has risen over 10 600. These numbers are sadly expected to rise as relief efforts continue.
The Islamic Relief South Africa has already committed R600, 000 towards the globalemergency response. We are currently appealing for members of the public to support our Fund-raising efforts to bolster efforts as the humanitarian situation deteriorates.
Despite government restrictions placed on foreign aid workers, our Indonesian office members have been on the ground in Palu delivering essential items such as food packs, water, gasoline and medical disposables.
The people of Indonesia will take years to recover from this devastating emergency. While we are assisting with recovery efforts, it is heartbreaking to hear stories of villages beingdeclared as ‘mass graves’.
Let us keep the victims and their families in our Duas and do all that we possibly can to assist survivors and the injured.
