Top cricketer Parnell bowls over Cape bride

South African fast bowler Wayne Parnell (26) who reverted to Islam in 2011, made nikah to Cape Town fashion blogger Aisha Baker at the Zeenatul Islam Mosque in District Six, Cape Town. Around 400 guests attended the wedding ceremony recently.

Just three days after his marriage, Parnell jetted off to the West Indies in a triangular tournament that also features the hosts and Australia.

The couple received special congratulations from Cricket South Africa in a tweet: “Congrats Wayne Parnell & Aisha on their wedding ! May you live happily ever after.”

In 2011, Parnell went through a period of intense self-examination and reflection, and decided to convert to Islam, changing his name to Waleed, which means ‘Newborn Son’.

Parnell said that in 2011 he decided to convert to Islam after personal study and reflection. He was quoted that he had always had an interest in the faith.
